Nearing Gaza War Objectives, Israel Says, Turning to Lebanon's Northern Border

Reuters, Jerusalem - Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated on Tuesday that Israeli forces are getting closer to their objectives in the Gaza Strip and will concentrate on the country's northern border with Lebanon. The regular shelling by Hezbollah continues. According to a Reuters release on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, this is the case.

Gallant addressed troops on Israel's northern border via video message. "Military missions are moving north, we are nearing completion in the south, but the mission is not yet complete," Gallant stated. Gallant continued, "The advice that everyone is waiting for is that I tell them to go south and we see that "The force is operating,"" alluding to the ground offensive three weeks after Hamas' October 7 attack.

On October 8, Hezbollah in Lebanon launched rockets into Israeli territory. This was the start of a wave of shelling that drove tens of thousands of civilians to evacuate along the border. Gallant told reporters in a statement on Tuesday, "While we are pushing for an agreement, I have led the defense forces to prepare for all scenarios, including directing our attention." "Hold the northern ring and make sure everyone returns safely."
