Shortly after the iPhone 16 was released, Huawei revealed the first $2,800 Mate XT Ultimate three-fold flip smartphone.
When fully extended, the Mate XT's screen measures 10.2 inches; after two folds, it is 7.9 inches and 6.4 inches, respectively, with a 120Hz LTPO OLED. Three rear cameras—50 MP wide, 12 MP telephoto, and 12 MP ultrawide—as well as an 8 MP front camera with a 5600mAh battery are included in the smartphone.
The world's largest and thinnest three-fold foldable smartphone took five years to develop, according to Richard Yu, Huawei's head of consumer business. "We have confidently resolved the technical issues with screens and bumps, bringing science fiction to life."
With the release of its flagship Mate 60 last year, Huawei surprised everyone by announcing that it was no longer dependent on foreign chips, thanks to the US restricting chip exports to China. The Mate 60 features the domestic Kirin 9000S chip. The next-generation Kirin 9090 chip powers the three-fold foldable smartphone.
Counterpoint Research reports that Huawei and other Chinese companies led the 49% growth in the first quarter of the global foldable smartphone market.
