Washington, DC (New York Times), April 8 - According to the New York Times, top-secret documents detailing US and NATO intentions to assist Ukraine in getting ready for a spring onslaught against Russia have leaked into social media sites.
A Ukrainian presidential official said on Friday that the alleged leak appeared to be part of a Russian misinformation campaign to cast doubt on Ukraine's intended counteroffensive.
According to Mykhailo Podolyak, Russia was attempting to regain the upper hand in its invasion and the data comprised a "very large amount of fictitious information."
On Thursday, the Pentagon declared that it was investigating the alleged security lapse.
Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh stated, "We are aware of the claims of social media posts, and the department is evaluating the situation.
According to the Times, the documents—which were shared on Twitter and Telegram—contain graphs and information regarding weapon supplies, battalion strengths, and other sensitive data.
No information was provided as to how the plans were acquired.
According to the report, the records contain information that is at least five weeks old, with the most recent date being March 1. Plans did not include details on particular actions, such as the timing of Ukraine's attack.
