(Washington) – US President Donald Trump on Thursday (US time) ordered federal agencies, including the Pentagon, to begin searching for and releasing government documents related to “unidentified flying objects,” or UFOs, and extraterrestrial life to the public.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump stated that he had instructed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and other relevant agency heads to begin the process of identifying and releasing all information related to unusual aerial phenomena (UAP) and extraterrestrial life due to the "great interest" from the public.
The decision comes as Trump criticized former President Barack Obama for leaking "secret information" during a recent podcast interview, in which Obama said aliens are "real" but that he has never met them in person or seen evidence of contact. Trump told reporters he was not sure if aliens really exist, but he wanted to be as transparent as possible on the issue."Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be instructing the relevant Secretaries and agencies to begin the process of releasing government documents related to extraterrestrial life, unusual aerial phenomena (UAPs), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs)," Trump said .The announcement received immediate support from several members of Congress, including Anna Paulina Luna, the head of the UAP investigation task force in the US House of Representatives, who thanked President Trump for opening up information that the world has been waiting for for decades.
However, a 2024 report by the US Department of Defense stated that there was no evidence to suggest that past UFO sightings were related to extraterrestrial technology, with most cases being attributed to weather balloons, spy planes or satellites.The release of these documents is expected to help clarify many of the questions and conspiracy theories that have arisen among Americans and the world surrounding the mystery of extraterrestrial life.
