Ready to impose an unconditional ceasefire, according to Hamas


(Cairo) - On Wednesday, September 11, the Palestinian organization Hamas announced that its negotiators had reiterated their willingness to carry out an emergency ceasefire with Israel in the Gaza Strip based on a plan. In a statement, Hamas said that its negotiators, under the direction of senior official Khalil al-Hayya, had a meeting in Doha on Wednesday with a group of mediators, which included Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to talk about the most recent events in the Gaza Strip.


The failure of ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza war has been attributed to differences between Israel and Hamas on a number of issues, most notably Israel's sovereignty of the Philadelphia Strait. Egypt and Gaza are its borders. William Burns, the director of US intelligence and the leader of US negotiators in the Gaza conflict, stated on Saturday that additional information about the proposed ceasefire might be released in the next few days.


President Joe Biden unveiled the US plan for a three-stage ceasefire in Gaza in June. It calls for the evacuation of Israeli troops from the region and the reconstruction of this devasted area in exchange for the release of the remaining hostages.
